Today more than ever, labels are a guarantee for feather padding producers and end consumers that the feathers are a natural, sustainable, traceable and biodegradable resource.
Following a strict testing procedure and a certification issued by the specialised clinical laboratory Hohenstein, Assopiuma has collected detailed scientific data concerning the times and ways of feather degradation. This has led the association and its members to implement a complete updating of the labelling system, which will maintain the distinction between âivoryâ and âgoldâ paddings, but will now also include the wording â100% biodegradable featherâ. Even the new green printing colour was chosen to contribute to raising awareness about the manufacturersâ focus on environmental protection.
Due to their 100% natural origin, feathers are completely biodegradable. Once their long life cycle is over, they can be transformed in composting stations into nitrogen fertiliser which can be used in agriculture or home gardening and thus be reintegrated in the biological life cycle. If feathers are involuntarily scattered in the environment, they degrade in a few months and donât pollute the land nor ground water.
